A few months ago we sat down with our homie and longtime friend, Gilbere Forte to talk to him about what was going on in his life and how things were getting big for him. Here’s how that went, and what he had to say. If you haven’t heard about/from Gilbere yet, it probably won’t be much longer until you do!

Gilbere has a big event this coming Tuesday, July 22 for his upcoming #87 Dreams release. We’ll be there to celebrate and take pics, and we’ll be back here soon to show you how it went down! Congratulations Gilbere!

A few years ago if you were shopping in our UBIQ Gallery store, you might have had a young sales associate by the name of Gilbere help you out. Today, GIlbere has moved on from his sales days and is doing things like producing his own music, recording with fellow soon-to-be-huge artists like STS, and having the featured video on Myspace Music. The video is for his single “Black Chukkas”, so it looks like he hasn’t forgotten his sneaker roots! Check out his video above directed by Chris Robinson for Robot Films! Congrats Gilbere!

Thanks to our friends at LTD Mag and Mountain Dew, we have been selected to compete in Mountain Dew’s Green Label Art: Shop Series this year!

The premise is 35 shops across the country designing a can for Mountain Dew with any artist of their choice. We tapped our own Creative Director, Mike Rios, and his entry is above! Mike flipped our own woodgrain that’s used in our branding including our site, business cards, and UBIQ Walnut St store (it’s actually a photo of the sneaker wall there) and flipped it with Mountain Dew’s signature GREEN colorway.

The can represents not only UBIQ and our customers, but the skate world, skate decks, art influenced by skateboarding and the pouring/flow of Mountain Dew soda!

Instead of showing you a lot of crazy crowd photos from the Vans OTW Launch party that we held this past Friday, we thought we’d give you a look at what went into the party. Here are the faces who were waking up early, and staying up late every day last week to put together such an amazing event for all of you, along with a nice, unobstructed look at the event space before all of the madness went down.


Set Free, our powerhouse Marketing Director, in the 154th hour of planning, some time on Friday afternoon, making sure everything is in check. Thank you Free!


Rueben from Vans. The glue (and nails, and elbow grease) that literally put everything together for us. All of that artwork didn’t hang itself! Thank you Rueben!


Team OTW. Up on our roof, we had a short little photo shoot early in the day, and got to know the OTW advocates a little better before lunch. Dimitre Coste is a character! Here he is hamming it up while Tom and crew take some photos. Thank you Dimitre!


Mr. Rickey Kim. Rickey is an old friend of mine, who is in charge of the OTW perspective on their company blog. We share a lot of similar interests and thoughts about the industry, and it was great to have him at the shop for the day to catch up! Thank you Rickey!




Eric Elms. Certainly not a man who needs an introduction. We were all captivated watching Eric work, hanging his installation and chopping it up with the crew about his laundromat hangers and oversized thumbtacks. Eric was also super accesible the WHOLE night and was talking to everyone who came up to him. Model arist, and advocate! Thank you Eric!

The Space: Vans transformed our Upstairs perfectly to fit the OTW brand, and the party goers fell right into place!
