Asics Gel Saga “Kill Bill” & Gel Lyte III Navy/Orange, Available Tomorrow 4/30

Monday, April 29th, 2013

asicsblogFirst let’s start with the graphic ones. Inspired by Quentin Tarantino-directed Kill Bill’s main character The Bride (played by Uma Thurman), these Asics Gel Sagas share the same black and yellow colors of her assassin suit turning them into a pair of killer kicks. Yellow suede upper with black leather branding, the midsole features red dots reminiscent of the blood splatter. For the other pair, a more subdued yet beautiful, mostly tonal navy based gets accented with dark orange details. Plush suede, minimal leather and mesh toe make up the upper with a couple reflective 3M hits thrown in for style – not to mention the the split tongue padding. An all-around beauty of a shoe, if we do say so ourselves

Whether you’re an avid sneaker collector or a Kill Bill aficionado, or simply trying to seek revenge on your old colleagues, you can pick both of these up at UBIQ Walnut tomorrow Tuesday 4/30.
They’ll be available in-store, with phone orders accepted at 12NOON pending stock availability.

It’s finally almost here. Both movie and music critics have been talking about the film adaptation of F. Gatsby will star Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, and Carey Mulligan, with musical contributions coming from Hov himself and of course Beyonce, who covers Amy Winehouse. Peep the full list tracking:

1. 100$ Bill – JAY Z

We want to do everything in this movie by Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) – cloud rides, DJ-controlled skating rinks, closing walls – yep all of it. If you care what the film Mood Indigo may actually be about read here.

Bones is Back…

Thursday, August 23rd, 2012

ubiq_ripper

Years ago when we first opened UBIQ Walnut Street, we put together a small collection of tees that were sendoffs of popular tees from the skate and sports world. The Ripper tee was one of them, and it sold out almost immediately. If you’re familiar with the Bones Brigade and that logo, then you’re probably already aware of the news that broke recently about the new documentary that’s been put together with help in part by our friends at Vans. Check out the trailer above, and then pick up a pair of Vans or Vans Vault from our new arrivals on UBIQlife.com! Should we bring back the Rippper tee? Let us know in the comments!

Adam Smith for UBIQ and Converse…

Tuesday, August 21st, 2012

If you were lucky enough to join us for our huge bash with Converse a few weeks ago for the start of the World Basketball Festival, then you’ve already seen Adam Smith’s work. His mural in our front room was getting comments all night long and served as a great welcome to all of our guests that stopped through.

We put together a short profile on Adam and wanted you all to know a little bit more about him and his art. Check out the video above, and then check out his site at dearadamsmith.com. Support local artists!

Moonrise Kingdom Short…

Wednesday, June 13th, 2012

I was fortunate enough to get to see a free sneak preview screening of Moonrise Kingdom last week with my wife through the Philadelphia Film Society. Most of the UBIQ design staff are huge fans of Wes Anderson and I must say I wasn’t let down by his newest movie. The new short above doesn’t give much away in terms of the actual movie’s plot, but it does give you a strong sense of what the movie is like and how it looks. The cinematography, color palette and of course, the story/characters all lived up to the hype that I created for this movie. If you’re into Wes Anderson, or just want to see a movie that’s put together with more attention than typical movies, go see it when it comes out this weekend, you’re money will be well spent.

New Michel Gondry movie…

Tuesday, May 15th, 2012

As usual, the details on this are sketchy at best… but I’m not too worried that Michel Gondry will dissapoint. It certainly looks like he’s gone outside of his “comfort-zone” again and has reinvented what film-making is for him.

This American Life Live this Thursday…

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012

This American Life is a radio show on PRI/NPR that you should be paying attention to. The easiest way to explain it is by saying that they tell stories that you actually want to hear. Typically, you’ll get 3 acts each with a different story on the same theme. It’s hosted by the incomparable Ira Glass and often features a lot of heavyweight writers/comedians and other-wise talented people like David Sedaris, Mike Birbiglia and Dan Savage.

This Thursday May 10th, they’re putting on a live version of their show in NY and broadcasting it live in movie theatres across the country. Around the UBIQ design office we’ve been talking about this for weeks. We’re hyped! You should go out to your local movie theater and see it if you have the chance. Watch the video above for a better preview and head to their site at thisamericanlife.org for information on how to get tickets.

We’ll see you there!
