Being a designer and sports fan, the news of the Brooklyn Nets branding was certainly something I paid attention to this past week. I’m not the basketball fan that I was back in the 90’s, but I do pay close attention to logos and branding and certainly the NBA as a whole in relation to retail and merchandise.
I can’t say that I was hurt by the design of the new Nets logo (like a LOT of people are claiming on the internet), but I also can’t say that I LOVE the logo. Typically in design, you know you’ve done a great job when people either hate or love your work. It means that your work is firing on emotional chords and making people react. The only reaction I gave to the Nets logo was a shrug, but people do seem to be hating it… so maybe they did something right.
Over on thefoxisblack, they talked at length about the logo and some it’s nuances. They also threw some ideas around for alternate versions. Take a look and let us know your thoughts in the comments.
And enough with thise Nets talk, LET’S GO SIXERS!
